EMMA KINANE | ‘BASTARD’ | A graduate of Toi Whakaari, Emma has worked as an actress in theatre, TV, film and radio for 25 years. For her Masters in Scriptwriting from IIML at Victoria University, she wrote the stage play Hope. Full and previously co-wrote plays Turbine, Paua and The December Brother with SEEyD Collective. Turbine was nominated for Best New NZ Play at the 2007 Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards and in 2009 Emma won a place in the NZ Film Commission’s First Writers Initiative for her adaptation of Turbine. In 2011, her TV pilot won first equal in the NZ Writers Guild Scriptwriting competition. Her Radio NZ New Shorts Competition winner Clouds aired in 2014 and her next project is the play Anahera.
KATE MORRIS | ‘FIVE MOMENTS BEFORE WE MET’ | British-New Zealander Kate Morris holds a BA(Hons) from the University of Otago in Film and Media and an MA in Scriptwriting from the International Institute of Modern Letters at Victoria University. She is a three time New Zealand Young Playwright Winner and represented the country at the International Young Playwrights’ Festival in Cairns, Australia in 2009. Commissions include work for the Otago Museum with their Cosmix project (for which she subsequently was voted ‘Favourite New Writer’ at the 2006 Gibson NZ Comic Book Awards), Capital E with End Game (co-written with Rachel Callinan) and Radio NZ (adaptation of Sketch).
